In just 30 days, I executed a rapid rescue by designing, custom-coding, validating, training, and implementing a distribution system for a facility that averages 240 trucks per week. A multi-billion-dollar food supplier had recently relocated its operations to a new centralized distribution center to accommodate an increase in truck and product volume. Unfortunately, they found themselves without a distribution system shortly after launching. I took on the full challenge, full project ownership, plan, design, coding, and implementation under extreme timelines, after other firms turn them down. The rapid rescue plan was completed, enabling the manufacturing company to avoid halting delivery to their customers, saving millions in the cost of dated products that would have otherwise been scrapped, and allowing the company to maintain its "Walmart Supplier of the Year" award.

  • A two-phased rescue plan was successful.

  • Phase 1 involved setting up a temperature cross-dock operation to keep the distribution center operating at a lower level and satisfy key accounts while using perishable inventory.

  • Phase 2 involved the development of custom software to return the distribution center to full capacity.

  • Key features of the custom software included inventory management, cross-docking, kitting, lot management, inbound receiving, outbound shipping, customer order fulfillment management, interface to SAP, and hardware interfaces.

  • The full plan and successful implementation were completed on time, in an aggressive 30 days.

  • The system handled an additional 28% increase in volume in the next 12 months.
